KEEN is a national, nonprofit volunteer-led organization that provides one-to-one recreational opportunities for children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities at no cost to their families and caregivers. KEEN's mission is to foster the self-esteem, confidence, skills and talents of its athletes through non-competitive activities, allowing young people facing even the most significant challenges to meet their individual goals.

British Cyclist Christopher Day Completes Trans-USA Bicycle Ride to support KEEN Oxford.
On March 6th, Christopher Day, uncle of a 12 year old KEEN Oxford athlete, began an amazing trek across the USA. He arrived at JFK airport a few days earlier, and met KEEN New York's Executive Director, Maggie Harrison. He then departed for his launch city, San Diego, California, where he purchased the bicycle he named "Old Bessie," which would be his constant companion for the next 79 days and 3323.9 miles.

KEEN Los Angeles's Executive Director, Eduardo Garcia, drove down to San Diego to see Chris off on his journey.

When he reached Phoenix, KEEN Phoenix Board President Henry Chan and Board Member Tom Mancuso showed him the sites.

He was greeted at the "finish line" at the South Lawn of the White House by KEEN USA Executive Director Kate Hurson and National Development Director Dillon Cox (our photographer).

To celebrate his accomplishment, Chris enjoyed dinner at Washington Landmark, the Old Ebbitt Grill, with KEEN Founder Elliott Portnoy, who started KEEN in Oxford 25 years ago, KEEN Greater DC Executive Director Beata Okulska, Kate Hurson, and KEEN Greater DC Board Members BJ Corriveau and Charlie Gilbert. Old Bessie has gone into storage until we can arrange transport for her back to the UK. You can read more about Chris's epic journey on his facebook page.
