KEEN’s mission is to empower youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness and fun, led by volunteer coaches.
KEEN’s vision is fostering the confidence, self-esteem and inclusion in the community for youth with disabilities; strengthening the community through education of volunteers; and providing families with respite and a supportive network.
KEEN USA hosted a National Symposium in Washington, DC on the need for fitness programs for kids with disabilities in light of the childhood obesity epidemic. Representatives from NCHPAD, The YMCA, Special Olympics, SHAPE America, Playworks, and other organizations came together to discuss access and barriers to programming, best practices for providing programs, outcomes measurement and other issues on this critical topic.
